The Bottom Line: What it means to you.
A lot of people are perfectly content with how the political
process has worked for them. They like the President representing their nation,
they like that the Senators and Representatives they voted for are up on
the hill working issues they care about. Or they at least are content until
next time for the selections to the House and Senate. Finally, they like the fact
that they don't have to think about it for another four years.
There are, however, people that are definitely not
content. They hate the fact that the Election mayhem is being "brushed aside".
They want answers as to why some states may or may not have "violated Constitutional
statues" in regards to ballot issues. They not only don't like the President,
but think that some of the other elected officials could be better choices.
Then of course there is the middle ground. The people that
aren't getting their skivies in a wad one way or the other. They figure in
another four years they can try again, and in the meantime they will make do.
They may not be overly pleased, but they know that sooner or later they will
be represented by someone they would like. Besides, aren't all politicians
crooked or unrepresentative anyways? So why sweat it?
What is important to all these groups is that
they believe the system, one way or another, is working. They believe
that while it may or may not need tweaking, it is the best system in the
world. Some will either go about their day to day lives letting the politicians
worry about the mundane details. Others will write their Representatives
to express their views and hope that that will influence their decisions. Still
others will do detailed research and spread the word of "truth". (I put the word
truth in quotes because we all know that that is selective, right?)
So the bottom line is, what does it mean to you? Where
do you want to be in "the system"? Are you content to go about your day to
day life letting others worry out the details of how things "should" and "will"
be? Are you someone that doesn't like what is happening and wants a more
active part in the laws that directly affect your life? What is your role?
What do you want it to be?
If you think that there is serious need for change,
please be proactive. Never let anyone silence you because they don't feel
as strongly as you do about an issue. If you feel one way, and you think
it is important enough then write your Representative. Have an active
voice in the process "of the People, for the People, by the People".
When it comes down to it, you are the one that thinks the way you do, you
are the one that has to live with your choices...so why not have a say?
If you are one to try again next time and don't want
to have to worry about the mundane details, take comfort in the fact that
that is what the system was set up to do: take care of the details.
