Strange Logic
I started this article with the intent of commenting on the furor over the results of the Connecticut primary. On reflection, I wondered why I thought I should comment? I am not a resident of Connecticut and surely there has been far too much said by non-residents already I don't happen to think it matters all that much who is the next senator from Connecticut. I think it is a given is that Congress as a whole is paid too much and gets too many benefits and does far too little in return. I don't think there is much difference between the parties except for the form their rhetoric takes.
What I think are important issues are the things that aren't being addressed at all like jobs, children who go to bed hungry, literacy, lack of health care. I could add several more items to that list. There is more to life than warmongering. And more to life than what is reflected in the current national debate.
As we go into yet another political season, we would do well to think about what we expect from our government and what we should expect. Our grand democracy has degenerated into a bunch of special interests who all want their way and care little for things like compromise or what is good for the nation as a whole. Our politicians act like spoiled brats. My grandparents would have sent them to bed without their supper. In this more enlightened age, we re-elect them.
